Axon: Product Design

Power in Partnership

At Axon, I worked across multiple teams, acting as a go-to advocate and resource. My core strength was building strong partnerships between design, business, and engineering teams to drive results. Navigating complex products required me to shift quickly from high-level strategy to hands-on design tasks, embracing adaptability and a problem-solving mindset.

Multi-Project Goals

  • Maintain design system accuracy and consistency

  • Advocate for design excellence with a user-first approach

  • Offer clear, accessible documentation and system guidance

  • Drive cohesion across products to reduce rework

  • Deliver efficient, focused design support

  • Foster efficiency and continuous learning opportunities

My Role

  • Audit and refine the design system to ensure alignment with the codebase

  • Create and share centralized design resources for consistency

  • Brainstorm and implement strategies to improve cross-functional communication, such as bulletin boards, office hours, and weekly Slack updates

  • Provide one-on-one support to individuals and teams

  • Facilitate key conversations, training sessions and working sessions to drive design progress

This case study isn't about a single project, but rather the threads that tie them all together—highlighting a role and environment unlike any other.

Thread 1: Evaluate, Align, Achieve Accuracy

I audited the component library to align live code with Figma, driving efforts to establish a single source of truth for all teams and streamline communication for easier onboarding and system maintenance. I also developed self-service documents and online resources alongside tech writing to offer clear system guidance.

In a large organization with 40+ designers and specialized teams, I improved communication and visibility. I led weekly office hours (initially packed, later less needed), Slack summary updates, Figma training, cross-team workshops on filters, navigation and AI, and served as the liaison between design and engineering across time zones.

Thread 2: The Power of Communication

I worked across multiple teams, supporting evidence.com (DEMS) with design system work, prototyping and cloud initiatives. I also provided design consulting for Axon Academy, wireframing, concepting and animation for the Enterprise market, and collaborated with the platform team on the design library. In short, I was a versatile consultant, delivering high-quality results across teams with energy and consistency.

Thread 3: Seamless Support, Strategic Pivoting
